Senior Data Engineer

We are currently looking for Data Engineer with the follwoing details.

This position is with our client in Redwood City, CA.

The Data Insights team builds world-class systems that leverage data to help their teams provide the best experiences for our customers.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be key to helping the Data Insights team ensure that the company knows how it is doing and what to do next.  You will create and maintain the tools and systems that pull meaning from multiple streams of data.  From deploying and configuring Hadoop machines to creating recommendation systems for our customers, your work will ensure that they continue to delight their customers in the future.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain and improve our ETL systems and the Data Insights cluster, including Hadoop, Hive, and ETL job management scripts
• Maintain and enhance systems designed to pull data from over 1000 different MySQL databases, and over 100GB of streaming event data each day, for further analysis

• Plan and deploy new processes and systems, including ‘fast-data’ systems like Spark

QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years experience with Hadoop/Hive
• 1+ years experience with MySQL
• 5+ years in Data Engineer/Software Engineer/Operations/Devops role
• Deep knowledge of data architectures and systems (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Cassandra, Kafka)
• Strong knowledge and experience with databases, distributed systems and computing systems in general.
• Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals
• Demonstrated expertise in various languages like PHP, Python and database query languages, with an ability and desire to learn new languages quickly
• Source control experience (e.g. SVN, Git)

BONUS POINTS

• Devops skills – experience with machine and cluster management
• MySQL database administration
• B.S./B.A. degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or other technical fields.
• A can-do attitude
